Huts to Heifer

Being part of the Peace Corps is a life changing experience in its own. Every day I lived a new experiences, pushed myself to new limits and found out new things about myself. Ive never laughed or cried as hard as I did in the two years I spent in West Africa, but it made me a stronger person. It also gave me insight to a new culture and the world around me. I became more aware of the environment and how in touch some of my African family was to it. I brought back that respect of the environment to the US when I moved home and then on to working with Heifer International in MA. I now get to speak to students daily about the experiences I had in the Peace Corps and how they can do something to make this world a better place. It has given me an outlet to spread some of the memories I have from Africa to the young mind here in the US. I get to inspire young minds and give students a sense of ownership of this planet. The glimmer in their eyes each time I see their motivation to make a difference is my "ah-ha" moment. It makes me realize that this is what I want to do in life, this is where I am meant to be, and this is what is going to make a difference. Whether its a hut in Africa, or working with Heifer International... each morning, I know I am doing something good.
